If someone searches and your content is relevant to the searcher’s query, of high quality, and you have done other On-page SEO activities, your website can rank on search engines and therefore, you can gain organic traffic.

Now that we know what is SEO. Shall we talk about “why is SEO important?” But first, let’s talk about how many types of SEO there are.

How many types of SEO are there?

There are three types of SEO:

  1. Technical SEO
  2. On-Page
  3. Off-Page

What is Technical SEO?

Technical SEO covers a wide range of factors that affect how search engines crawl, index, and rank your website. Here are some of the most important things in technical SEO:

Technical SEO Elements

  1. Site Structure: Site structure is a main thing in SEO because it helps user to navigate through your website. It should be easy.
  2. URLs: Your URLs should be easy to understand, descriptive for both, user and search engines. Their format should be consistent so that search engines can understand the relationship between different pages on your site.
  3. Page Speed: It’s a ranking factor. Make sure your page is loading fast or else it’ll hurt your rankings.
  4. Mobile Friendliness: Majority of user come from mobile so make sure your website is optimized for mobile.

What is On-Page SEO?

When we optimize our content, we can improve our rankings on search engines and earn organic traffic. On-page SEO is about content. Our goal is to help search engines to understand the meaning and context of our page.

On-Page SEO Elements

  1. Title Tags
  2. Heading
  3. Meta Description
  4. URLs
  5. Internal Linking
  6. Site content
  7. Keywords
  8. Image Optimization
  9. Featured Snippets

What is Off-Page SEO?

Off-Page SEO is about how you promote your website in multiple ways to improve its rankings. It can be done in various ways:

Off-Page SEO Elements

  1. Link Building
  2. Guest Posting
  3. Article Submission
  4. Social Shares

What’s the difference between On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO?

On-page SEO refers to what you do on your content or your webpages to improve your rankings on search engines, whether that is the title, heading, keyword research, etc.

While Off-page SEO focuses on how to promote your content or webpages, As we have read above, it can be done in multiple ways: backlinks, sharing your content with others on social media, and people linking to you if they like your content. You go to other websites in your niche and write for them as a guest (guest posting), and then they’ll link it to you because they’ll get an article and you will get a link and their audience as well. So, in a way, it helps you more when their audience will read something new, and it can attract their audience to come and read your content on your website.

How do search engines work?

Crawling: The Google bot or crawler comes and scans the internet for content; they look for code or content for each URL they find. They go from one page to another via internal links.

Indexing: Once they find the information, they store that information and organize the content that is found during the crawling process. Once a page is indexed, it’s available for users to view on search engines if users’ query is relevant to your content.

Ranking: If a searcher asks something and your content provides the best answer for that query, this means that results are shown on SERP(search engine results page) are most relevant. Your content was shown for that query because it was relevant and of high quality to the searcher’s query.

There are many on-page factors when it comes to ranking your web page.

  1. Page Title & Content Relevancy
  2. Page Content
  3. Quality of the Content
  4. Quality of the Website
  5. Page Speed
  6. Language of the page
  7. Date of Publication
  8. Device Type
  9. Location
  10. The popularity of a page

The main goal of any search engine is to make users happy with the results they are trying to find. For this, search engines need to find the best pages and serve them the top results.

There is one thing though that I want to mention: Google is not the only search engine, but it’s the most popular, which is why we refer to Google when we talk about search engines.

What Is Keyword Research?

You shouldn’t forget about keyword research. It is one of the main topics when it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Keyword research is the process of searching for keywords so we can rank for those and make our website visible when people search for a topic that we are making content on.

When it comes to keyword research, there are many types of keywords:

  1. Head vs. Long Tail Keywords (Topical vs. Supporting)
  2. Branded vs. Unbranded Keywords
  3. Seed vs. Page Specific Keywords
  4. Local vs. Global Keywords
  5. Niche Keywords
  6. Low-competition keywords
  7. Your competitors’ keywords
  8. Keywords vs. Carewords
  9. Evergreen vs. Topical Keywords
  10. Audience Type Keywords
  11. Step, Stage, or Phase-Based Keywords
  12. Primary (also called focus, targeted) vs. Secondary Keywords (also called tertiary, supported, LSI – Latent Semantic Indexing)

Why is SEO important?

With the help of SEO, you can help your website rank higher on search engines. If a user searches for something that is related to the topic you are writing about, it can send traffic, and it’s free.

Usually, when people go to Google, their intent is clear. Obviously, their intent could be navigational, informational, commercial, or transactional, but their intent is clear.

Other benefits of SEO are that it helps you increase brand awareness. When you share your work, other people come and read what you’ve written about.

People start trusting you, start reading your content, and start sharing it with others too.

And you get backlinks. Backlinks work as a vote of trust.

If your content is trustworthy, other people will link to it, and if a website is credible, it will give you backlinks, making you credible as well since backlinks work as a vote.
